Security men kill 3 bombers in University of Maidugiri.

- The attacks in Borno state have been increasing in recent times - Insurgents have attacked the citadel of learning severally in the last few months - An attempt to carry out another attack was rebuffed A report by The Cable indicates that three bombers lost their lives in an attempt to attack a hostel inside the University of Maiduguri on Thursday, July 6. A source quoted in the report said that two of the bombers detonated their explosives inside the university, while one was gunned down by security operatives as he tried to escape. Bashir Adam, a security man attached the university, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred around 11:30pm. Attacks in Borno state has continued despite the heavy presence of Nigerian soldiers. According to him, the attackers invaded the university through a perimeter fence.  He said security men moved in immediately they heard sounds of explosion and discovered a suspect trying to escape. His words: “We first shot him on his hand and then we gunned him down on the fence while trying to scale through. “All the bombers were killed by their explosive.” Bunu Grema, a resident of the university, said the insurgents were unaware that the school was on break. “They targeted student at the hostel not knowing that they were on break. We thank God they did not kill anyone,” he said. The attack is the third in the series targeting the university in the last few weeks.

According to a statement by NAF, during the ISR mission, a gradual convergence of BHT elements at some buildings in Alagarno Camp 1 was noticed. “The air component detailed 3 aircraft namely, 2 Alpha Jet and one F-7Ni aircraft, to conduct Air Interdiction strikes on the buildings in succession. “Subsequent battle damage assessment revealed that the structures with the solar panels as well as other adjoining BHT structures were damaged,” the statement said.
